Home Buying

About MHC

Maine Home Connection is an independent boutique brokerage founded in 2003 by Laura and Michael Sosnowski. We’re located at 19 Commercial Street in the heart of downtown Portland — where the waterfront is our front yard. We specialize in Greater Portland and Southern Maine, with particular depth in waterfront, coastal, lake, and Casco Bay island properties. We’re not a franchise, and we don’t operate like one.

We think of ourselves as a marketing and media company that sells real estate — not the other way around. Every listing gets professional video, intentional photography, and a digital strategy built to reach the right buyers. We’ve been doing this since before video was standard practice, and it shows in our results. As an independent firm, every client works directly with an experienced agent — not a team member, not an assistant. The attention is personal because the firm is personal.

It’s our core philosophy. In an industry increasingly driven by algorithms, portals, and automation, we believe the most powerful tool in real estate is still a trusted human relationship. We use technology to amplify that relationship — not replace it. The Human Algorithm is local expertise, genuine accountability, and real communication, backed by the best digital tools available.

Laura is the Principal Broker and co-founder of MHC. She has been practicing real estate in Maine for over two decades and is the public face of the company’s video content, buyer and seller consultations, and client relationships. She’s known for patience, market knowledge, and an ability to guide clients through complex transactions with clarity. As one client described her: ‘more like a trusted friend than a sharp businesswoman’ — though she’s both.

How We Work

For buyers: yes, Maine now requires a Buyer Representation Agreement before an agent can show you homes. This agreement defines how the agent is compensated and ensures you have formal representation. We’ll walk you through it before we do anything else. For sellers: you’ll sign a Listing Agreement that outlines our services, the listing price, and our commission structure.

Actively and consistently. We believe communication is one of the most common failure points in real estate transactions — not enough of it, not at the right times. We share showing feedback with sellers, call weekly with updates, and are reachable directly throughout the process. You won’t be chasing us.
Yes — and this is a situation we navigate frequently. Whether you’re selling a current Maine home and buying another, or selling somewhere else and buying here, we’ll coordinate both sides and help you think through the timing strategically. There are real advantages to having one team who understands both transactions.
Our primary focus is Greater Portland and Southern Maine — Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Cumberland, Gorham, Windham, Freeport, Harpswell, and the Casco Bay islands. We also work with buyers and sellers throughout York County and the Sebago Lakes region. If you’re not sure whether we cover your area, just ask.

The easiest first step is a conversation. Call us, email us, or use the contact form on our website. We offer buyer consultations, seller strategy sessions, and relocation consultations — no pressure, no obligation, just honest guidance from people who know this market deeply.

The world of reality has its limits; the world of imagination is boundless.

At Maine Home Connection, we channel our unwavering commitment and passion into delivering unparalleled real estate excellence. If you’re contemplating a property purchase in Maine, seize the opportunity to empower your decision with our latest Relocation Guide.
