Getting to Know Laura Sosnowski
Principal broker & co-founder

For more than two decades, Laura Sosnowski has helped buyers, sellers, and relocating clients navigate Greater Portland and Southern Maine. As Principal Broker and co-founder of Maine Home Connection, she brings together deep local knowledge, strategic marketing, and the perspective that comes from more than 20 years of working in this market. Based in Portland, Maine, Laura has particular experience with residential, waterfront, and coastal properties, as well as the unique challenges that come with relocating to Maine. But her path to real estate didn’t begin with real estate. It began with building businesses, serving customers, and learning what it takes to earn someone’s trust. Whether you are buying a home or selling a home in Southern Maine, Laura and Maine Home Connection offer practical guidance throughout the process.

Before co-founding Maine Home Connection, I spent years building, owning, and operating small businesses, including a successful floral design and event planning business in Atlanta. Running a consumer-facing business where every detail mattered taught me lessons that still shape the way I work today: how important presentation is, how to manage complicated moving parts without losing sight of the big picture, and how much trust matters when someone is relying on you to deliver.

When Michael and I moved to Maine in 2000, I eventually transitioned into real estate. I wasn’t interested in simply following the traditional model. I wanted to build something different — an independent boutique brokerage grounded in deep local knowledge, thoughtful marketing, effective technology, and a genuine commitment to the people we represent. That’s what ultimately became Maine Home Connection.

Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere. – Carl Sagan

More than two decades later, I still don’t look at real estate simply as sales. I see it as a combination of strategy, judgment, communication, marketing, and advocacy — with the client’s goals at the center of it all. Since beginning my real estate career in 2003, I’ve been involved in more than 500 transactions representing more than $250 million in sales. I’ve also continued my professional education throughout my career, earning the CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designation in 2008, the ABR (Accredited Buyer’s Representative) designation in 2009, and the GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) designation in 2012. My broker license number is BR912052.

For me, those numbers and designations are less about credentials than they are about experience — the experience to recognize opportunities, anticipate problems, understand the market, and help clients make thoughtful decisions.

Real estate has also given me the opportunity to contribute to the profession and the community I’ve called home for more than two decades. I served as a Director of the Maine Association of REALTORS® and spent several years in leadership with the Portland-area REALTOR® organization, including serving as Treasurer.

Outside of real estate, I served on the Board of The Woodlands Club in Falmouth and participated in a number of club committees. For me, involvement in organizations like these has always been less about titles and more about being part of the community, contributing where I can, and building relationships that last well beyond a transaction.

Real estate has more information and technology than ever before. Buyers can search thousands of properties from their phones. Sellers can see automated valuations in seconds. Data can tell us what happened in a market. But information isn’t the same thing as understanding.

After more than two decades in Greater Portland and Southern Maine, I’ve learned that the most valuable part of the process is often knowing what the numbers don’t tell you — how a neighborhood feels in January versus July, which waterfront considerations deserve a closer look, why two seemingly similar homes can attract very different buyers, or when a seller needs a strategy rather than another statistic.

That’s what I mean by The Human Algorithm.

Imagination — Listening beyond the obvious to understand what a client is really looking for, whether they’re relocating to Maine, finding a different kind of home, or deciding what comes next.

Information — Bringing more than 20 years of hands-on experience together with current market data, local knowledge, and the technology available to us today.

Interpretation — Turning all of that information into useful advice — from market trends and pricing to neighborhood differences, waterfront considerations, and the details that can make a complicated transaction easier to navigate.

Technology is an important part of how we work. But it works best when it’s paired with experience, judgment, context, and a real understanding of the people behind the transaction.

Real estate is a high-stakes, often emotional process. People are making some of the biggest decisions of their lives, and they’re trusting me to guide them through it. I take that seriously. My job isn’t simply to get a transaction to the closing table. It’s to listen carefully, tell the truth even when it’s not the easiest answer, solve problems when they arise, and remain engaged long after the paperwork is signed. The measure of that commitment is what clients say afterward. Here are a few of the many clients who have taken the time to share their experience:
